Team introduction: Georgia

georgia_logoThe introductory tour of players from the 35 nations that will compete in the 2015 European Team Chess Championship continues.

It is worth mentioning that the participating nations have until October 12th to confirm the exact team lists with all names; the player lists might change until that date.

Today we introduce the Georgian teams.

The Open team is led by the very strong GM Baadur Jobava (2683). He has played in eight ETC Championships, each one since 1999!, playing on board 1 since 2007. In 2001 he picked up an individual silver for his performance on the 4th board. His Chess Olympiad performance has been impressive, picking up an individual gold for the 4th board in 2004, with his team winning 1st prize the same year. In the 2010 Olympiad, he defeated GM Magnus Carlsen, then world’s number one player and now World Champion. His individual performance is a long list of fantastic achievements, to name only a few he won the Dubai Open in 2003, the 2006 Aeroflot Open, the strongest open tournament in the world, and the HZ Chess Tournament in Vlissingen (Netherlands) in August of 2015

The Woman team is led by the talented GM Nana Dzagnidze (2573). She has an impressive national team record, playing in 6 Chess Olympiads, every one since 2004, picking up an individual silver medal in 2012 and an individual gold for her performance on board 1 in Tromso 2014. Her ETC Championship record is equally impressive; she has played in every single championship since 2003, winning an individual gold in 2007, an individual bronze in 2011 and silver in 2013.
